Soon to come - Links to countless "speed" projects - NASCAR garages, Formula 1, Indy, Drag racing, air races, electronic devices, optical devices, non-"devices" ... lots of interesting links to those exploring speed limits.
--for now-- brief on "fastest human" speed projects:
Canadian Varna _____(2002), Diablo (2001), Mephisto (2000), Orpheus... (1992-1999)
Cutting Edge," "Speedbike", "Kyle Edge," "Virtual Edge," "Project Eta"
Details on Virtual Edge (from a long unedited email - details some principles involved in making a speedbike go fast)
Details on Project Eta (notes originally for Lee Ioccoca & friends when he visited Santa Cruz for an Electric bike event. We talked for a while, but he's pretty "busy" and I doubt ever took a peek at the "long" version. And, unfortunately, my bikes aren't Electric - I found the kids at the event vastly more interested than the adults! Kids are great, but they lack the capacity to sponsor - or do they? Amazing what it takes to "sell" anything given we are so bombarded. I'd rather observe the merits of things I "do" - but still it seems there's plenty of "educating" naturally necessary too - hence the resumption of racing and hence "Speed 101"...! )
Some details behind the resurgence in speedbike racing at Battle Mountain beginning in 2000. Even for a "few fast bikes," closing down a highway and safely and systematically managing high speed human powered vehicles becomes a complex affair involving many details and selfless effort on the part of many unnamed individuals. Here's just a glimpse at a few of the matters I've dealt with. This does not even touch on all the remarkable stories behind the efforts of each team and all many wonderful friends and relatives involved (more on that later!).
